The system becomes very slow (almost unresponsive) and the connection speed
is very low (instead of 7.5 kb/s I am getting aroun 2-3 kb/s). I tried to
disable acpi but the results where the same. pppd worked perfectly with my
USB-ISDN-TA on 2.4.22-ac4 (but that doesn't say much anyway). If I close the
pppd the system returns to a stable state and the syslog no more outputs
kernel errors. I include my kernel configuration file as an attachment (the
message is long enough; we don't need more lines ;-) ).

Installed software (maybe relative to the problem): pppd 2.4.1, acpid 1.0.2,
devfsd 1.3.25
