Right, then, will use this instead:

static int get_battery_current(void)
{ 
	s16 value;

	value = (ec_read(REG_BAT_CURRENT_HIGH) << 8) |
		(ec_read(REG_BAT_CURRENT_LOW));

	return abs(value);
}
