ice: Lock TC flower filter list operations
This patch adds a per-PF mutex, tc_flower_fltr_lock, to serialize access
to pf->tc_flower_fltr_list. The lock is taken in the TC flower add and
delete paths and in ice_replay_tc_fltrs(), and a mutex_lock() is added to
ice_rem_all_chnl_fltrs().

[Severity: High]
Was this meant to be a mutex_unlock(), with a matching mutex_lock() before
the hlist_for_each_entry_safe() loop?
As written, none of this work holds tc_flower_fltr_lock:
- the list walk
- the ice_rem_adv_rule_by_id() calls
- the num_chnl_fltr and num_dmac_chnl_fltrs decrements
- the hlist_del() and kfree(fltr)
The function then returns with the mutex held, and nothing releases it.
Can the race described in the commit message still happen?
ice_del_cls_flower() can take the mutex, find fltr and send the firmware
delete. Meanwhile the service task can run this on the same node without
the lock:
ice_prepare_for_reset()
ice_remove_q_channels(vsi, true)
ice_rem_all_chnl_fltrs()
hlist_del(&fltr->tc_flower_node);
kfree(fltr);
ice_del_cls_flower() would then call hlist_del() and kfree() on memory
that is already freed. Both paths could also decrement the filter counters
for the same rule.
The ice_is_reset_in_progress() check in ice_add_cls_flower() still runs
before the lock is taken.
Also, once any call to ice_rem_all_chnl_fltrs() returns (even with an
empty list), won't every later ice_add_cls_flower() and
ice_del_cls_flower() block forever in
mutex_lock(&pf->tc_flower_fltr_lock)? The next ice_rem_all_chnl_fltrs()
call would block as well.
This looks reachable from ice_prepare_for_reset() in the service task, on
a non-PF reset with ICE_FLAG_TC_MQPRIO set. It is also reachable from
ice_setup_tc_mqprio_qdisc() on mqprio channel teardown, which returns to
user space with the lock held:
if (!hw && !test_bit(ICE_FLAG_TC_MQPRIO, pf->flags))
ice_remove_q_channels(vsi, true);
The channel-setup cleanup path that calls ice_remove_q_channels() is
affected the same way. ice_deinit_pf() would then call mutex_destroy() on
a mutex that is still locked, which CONFIG_DEBUG_MUTEXES warns about.
Changing only this trailing mutex_lock() to mutex_unlock() would not close
the race. The lock needs to cover the whole loop.

[Severity: Low]
Does anything call ice_replay_tc_fltrs()? The commit message says:
and ice_replay_tc_fltrs() replays the same list after reset.
It also lists these as consequences:
stale filter state after replay
or reset/replay can traverse a list concurrently modified by flower
control operations.
A search of drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ only finds the kernel-doc and
definition in ice_tc_lib.c, plus the prototype in ice_tc_lib.h. The reset
and rebuild paths don't appear to call it, so the locking added here has
no runtime effect.
Could the commit message describe only the paths that actually walk the
list: ice_add_cls_flower(), ice_del_cls_flower() and
ice_rem_all_chnl_fltrs()?
