SuSE /etc/init.d/nfsserver does

        killproc -n -KILL nfsd 

so it looks like a SIGKILL.

Yes, I suspect it does.

I wonder why we have all this mucking about this signal masks anyway.
Anyone have any ideas about what it actually achieves?
