Subject: Corruption with ATA100 Maxtor 80 GB
Date: Fri, 13 Jul 2001 14:35:27 +0200	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20010713143527.4f2f6884.cd@kalkatraz.de> (raw)

Hi,

I have following problem: When coping large files from one 80 GB Harddisk
to it's counterpart (sync made with cpbk every night) the kernel just
crashes. This happend when connected to the on-bord (IDE82371AB PIIX4 IDE
(rev 01) ) the first time. Then I switched to an Promise Ultra100 TX2
Controller (20268 Chip) and installed hedricks ide-patch. I still had bugs
left. Now after using hdparm -X32 /dev/hdx the system seems stable.
Also i had:
Jul 10 21:30:23 bigmama kernel: EXT2-fs error (device ide0(3,2)):
ext2_free_blocks: Freeing blocks not in datazone - block = 134217728,
count = 1
Jul 10 21:30:23 bigmama last message repeated 8 times

Any idea if it's a hardware bug or bad drivers?
Lars
