If the relation between kernel hackers and qlogic is good, why we don't have an uptodate firmware with IP support and without license issue ? The initial reason behind the firmware drop was the license. And now it's a waste of RAM. A few times ago, Dmitry (I don't remember his name but If you want I can find it) has proposed an update for this driver including twos uptodate firmware (with and without IP support). He give us a link to a website to upload his patches ( http://www.datafoundation.org/qlogicfc/ ) but now the link is broken. If you are interresting I should be able to find his patch on an old disk. This update resolves nearly all my problems with the in-kernel one. And IIRC the included firmwares has no BSD license (no license at all IIRC).
