This patch was originally written by Paul McKenney and has the interfaces - memory_barrier() read_barrier() read_barrier_depends() write_barrier() read_barrier_depends() implements a lightweight barrier for data dependent reads. The corresponding discussion can be found here - http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?t=100259422200002&r=1&w=2 More info can be found at http://lse.sf.net/locking/wmbdd.html Existing barrier interfaces of course continue to be supported. The patch has been tested with UP/SMP kernels on i386. If you haven't changed your mind, please apply.
