Idle system taks 30-40 % system CPU for no apparent reason
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
After a while working (and for the time being for unknown reasons) the system 
becomes clearly slower.  Checking with top shows that the system eats up 30 
and more % :

The only way to solve this is to reboot.  They the CPU is idle again when no 
user activity is present
