Subject: [PATCH v9] x86/tboot: Add support for parsing DTPR table and disabling TPRs
Date: Fri, 30 Oct 2026 15:32:14 +0100 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <20261030143214.3564233-1-michal.camacho.romero@linux.intel.com> (raw)
In-Reply-To: <5849c6e562b22d9c84ac16eb3c65a27cd5036ff3.1793357321.git.michal.camacho.romero@linux.intel.com>
Add functions to locate and parse the DMA TXT Protection Ranges (DTPR)
table from the TXT heap's SinitMleData extended data elements (requires
SINIT MLE version >= 9).
* tboot_get_dtpr_table() - function walks through the
TXT heap to find the DTPR
extended data element (type
HEAP_EXTDATA_TYPE_DTPR) and
returns pointer to the DTPR
table.
* tboot_check_txt_heap_section_bounds() - function checks if a given
TXT heap section is within
the bounds of the heap.
* tboot_check_tprs() - function locates and caches
the DTPR table and counts the
number of the enabled TPRs.
* tboot_is_tpr_protection_enabled() - function reports whether any
TPR region is currently
enabled.
* tboot_disable_tprs() - function iterates over TPR
instances and disables each
active TPR region by setting
TPR_BASE_DISABLE_BIT (bit 4) in
the TPRn_BASE register via MMIO.
* tboot_unmap_txt_heap() - function releases the ioremap
mapping of the TXT heap.
* tboot_teardown_tprs() - function disables any enabled
TPRs and releases the TXT heap
mapping in a single call.
Using these functions will allow the kernel to deactivate SINIT
ACM-established TPRs prior to the Linux OS launch.
The TPRn_BASE/TPRn_LIMIT registers are 64-bit wide and are accessed via
readq()/writeq(). Those accessors are not provided by the 32-bit x86
asm/io.h, so build this code with <linux/io-64-nonatomic-lo-hi.h>, which
resolves readq()/writeq() to the native 64-bit MMIO accessors on 64-bit
builds and to a low/high pair of 32-bit accesses on 32-bit builds. The
TPR registers are programmed by the SINIT ACM and are static at the time
they are read/modified here, so the non-atomic low/high access is safe.
This fixes the i386 allyesconfig build.
For the same reason the TXT heap pointers are cast to unsigned long
(pointer-width) rather than u64 before pointer arithmetic, avoiding the
-Wpointer-to-int-cast warning on 32-bit where a pointer is narrower than
u64.

Changes since v8:
- Fix the i386 (32-bit) build reported by the kernel test robot. The
TPRn_BASE/TPRn_LIMIT registers are 64-bit, so they are accessed with
readq()/writeq(), which the 32-bit x86 asm/io.h does not provide. Build
the file with <linux/io-64-nonatomic-lo-hi.h>, which maps those to the
native 64-bit MMIO accessors on 64-bit and to a low/high pair of 32-bit
accesses on 32-bit. The TPR registers are programmed by the SINIT ACM
and are static when read/modified here, so the non-atomic low/high
access is safe.
- For the same build, cast the TXT heap pointers to unsigned long
(pointer-width) instead of u64 before pointer arithmetic, to avoid the
-Wpointer-to-int-cast warning on 32-bit where a pointer is narrower
than u64.
- Shorten two TPR count pr_err() messages so they no longer exceed the
line-length limit; no functional change.
- Verified clean W=1 builds on both x86_64 and i386 for the affected
objects (tboot.o, iommu.o, dmar.o).
