I'll send the attached patch to Alan soon, please test it.

Main changes:
* powerpc support added. Tested with ppc 603e.
* memory leak in _close fixed.
* initial power management support
* ethtool support merged
* SMP synchronization updated.
* improved link detection. This change could cause problems, but it's
required for proper switching between nway and pre-nway link partners,
at least with my PHY.

Tested with -ac11, patch also applies against 2.4.4 and 2.4.4-ac17.
