Hi, I am trying to test 2.5.47-mm2 (patched with http://bytesex.org/patches/2.5/patch-2.5.47-kraxel.gz so bttv and videodev, etc. compile) but I am having problems with modules. The -mm2 seems to be based on 2.5.47-bk2 so Rusty's last patches are in. I installed module-init-tools-0.7. Not too many modules load successfully, the unsuccessful modules are in bad format. (???) Among the unsuccesful ones are mii.o which is required by 8139too.o, all my three ethernet cards are rtl8139 compatibles. I tried to patch the kernel with the following patches from Rusty's page: strcspn alias module_dup param param-modules param-oldstyle kallsyms module-license try_inc_mod_count-removal The kallsyms and module-license patches are incompatible, leave 2 reject files for linux/include/linux/module.h and linux/kernel/module.c. (Solvable by hand btw.) Now I am compiling but with CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV=m the compilation stopped with errors, I switched it off. The kernel does not link. The following patches are needed to link the kernel for my config, which is attached, too. If CONFIG_KALLSYMS=y then I get this: make -f scripts/Makefile.build obj=kernel gcc -Wp,-MD,kernel/.module.o.d -D__KERNEL__ -Iinclude -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-trigraphs -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -pipe -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=pentium3 -Iarch/i386/mach-generic -fomit-frame-pointer -nostdinc -iwithprefix include -DKBUILD_BASENAME=module -DKBUILD_MODNAME=module -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c -o kernel/module.o kernel/module.c kernel/module.c: In function `load_module': kernel/module.c:1169: `symindex' undeclared (first use in this function) kernel/module.c:1169: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once kernel/module.c:1169: for each function it appears in.) kernel/module.c:1171: `strindex' undeclared (first use in this function) make[1]: *** [kernel/module.o] Error 1 make: *** [kernel] Error 2 Without CONFIG_KALLSYMS, the kernel will compile and link OK, but reboots before it writes 'Uncompressing...'. I have not tried to compile without module support. What do I need to use (test) 2.5.47+? Best regards, Zoltán Böszörményi
