Thanks for you comments. But I'd like to clarify the Hog child node definition - will work as below?

patternProperties:
   "^(hog-[0-9]+|.+-hog(-[0-9]+)?)$":
     type: object

     properties:
       gpio-hog: true

     required:
       - gpio-hog

In general, patternProperties duplicates $nodename in gpio-hog dtschema.
