Richard,

I think we're experiencing the same issue.  Could you fire up minicom 
(under 2.4) , connect to another box, and do a directory listing to see if 
you have the same lost characters/"flow control" looking issue I'm 
experiencing...  It's rock solid on 2.2.18.
