It was pointed out to me at LPC in Prague this week that 7.3 is most
likely not the LTS release after all, so we should wait another
release before actually removing the code in order to keep it all
alive in the 7.4LTS kernel.
I'll rebase this on top of 7.4-rc1 and resubmit for 7.5.
