2.6 newbie question RE: MODULES

Hi all,
    Taking my first try at compiling a 2.6 kernel ..... 2.6.4 to be exact.

Got a clean compile ... and I'm building an initrd by hand just to kick the
tires .... I can't get my modules to load.

I've compiled and installed module-init-tools-3.0 .... and I copied
insmod.static to the initrd. When I boot and linuxrc runs on the initrd I
get this message:

Version magic '2.6.4 686 gcc-3.2' should be '2.6.4 SMP preempt PENTIUM III
gcc-3.2'

insmod: error inserting '/lib/scsi_mod.ko':-1 Invalid Module Format

I've been googling all day without a lot of luck. Any direct would be
appreciated.

The running kernel is compiled as SMP, with preempt enabled, and for the PENTIUM III processor.
You must match this configuration to laod the modules.

Thanks, In all of my flailing to solve the problem I was so focused on the
modules I never copied the new bzImage into the boot directory .... it
seemed to click when I read this. Copied it over ... modules load OK now.

Kdb on Sus9 (x86_64)

Hi,
 I am working on Suse9.0 x86_64 kernel (2.4.21-102)
In the /usr/sc/linux/ dir , I can see kdb directory
with some files.
In the /boot/config file, it seems KERNEL_DEBUG is
enabled.
In documentation , it is said that we can enable in on
boot setting kdb=on.
Unable to find /proc/sys/kernel/kdb.

Any one got kdb working with Suse 9.0.
