Is the mailing list going out?

My apologies for the off-topic question, but I've not received any mail
from the list in about 4 days and was wondering if there's a known issue
with this or if I need to harrass my ISP regarding the mail servers.
Please cc me as I am subscribed, but not receiving ;)

   No, you are not subscribed - anymore.
We (postmasters of vger) got a lot of 'relaying denied' for your
domain, and the subscription got revoked.

Verify your email routing with tool:
   http://vger.kernel.org/mxverify.html

... looks like that is ISP system, and now it works.

The diagnostic data told me:

  Original-Recipient: rfc822;rootusr@midsouth.rr.com
  Final-Recipient: RFC822;rootusr@midsouth.rr.com
  Action: failed
  Status: 5.7.1
  Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 (<rootusr@midsouth.rr.com>... Relaying denied)
  Remote-MTA: dns; vamx01.mgw.rr.com (24.30.201.18|25|199.183.24.194|51071)
  Last-Attempt-Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 05:39:22 -0400

The mxverify reported data shows signature characteristics of
sendmail system used by your ISP - even though they try to hide
the system software version, I don't know of any system aside
of  sendmail  to report "ONEX" facility for EHLO response.

Perhaps their sendmail didn't get access to some dataset, and
it (in "good" sendmail style) didn't bother reporting that it
has problem to access data and ask to come back latter, instead
it reports permanent failure rejecting email.
(That is bloody common thing with sendmail...)

The mailing list works fine. I receiveid a lot of e-mail in 4 days. Your
ISP might have something to do with you not receiving any mail.... Go
shoot him in the head :))

  "them", not "him".
But the ISP's are using softwares which enable them to shoot themselves
on their feet/head quite nicely, we don't need to do any additional effort
there.

And for that matter, for some reason (maybe because most of the world is
running with sendmail ?) most of the time we see failures, there is
a sendmail which is failing to work as it is supposed to.

I had no ideea that you had more tham one connection to the internet. I
said "him" supposing that, just like me, you have only one ISP. My
mistake.

   You are not native english speaker, I think.  (Not that I am either.)
It is about how to use pronouns "he" vs. "they".   An ISP is not a person,
thus more appropriate pronoun would be "it", but also "they" applies.

I prefer using "your ISP" when writing to people notifying them about
email system glitches for their address, and referring to that elusive
group of people making mistakes and screwing up that email reception.

You are right, I am not a native English speaker. In my case, the ISP is
just one person (a one man's ISP firm, no emplyees). Once again sorry for
the confusion created.

Hi Stephen,

I have the same Stephen's problem, because  I didn't receive any messages from
tuesday.
I tried to use several POP3 client (kmail, and so on) and I verified that my
email account works fine because I receive every days messages from my
friends.

I didn't read any messages (linux-kernel messages) from Friday (because I was
on vacation) and my mail box became large more than 3 Mb (the max allowed by
my mail server) and probably my ISP sent back a lot of  'relaying denied' and
then my account has been revoked.

I downloaded from the mail server all the old messages and I run also the tool
in http://vger.kernel.org/mxverify.html that Matti suggested to Stephen and it
gave me an OK result.

Can someone of you tell me if it is possible re-activate my account. If no,
can you tell me how I can receive your messages.

	Actually "user over quota" was the message we got one for every
	message sent to the list -- and on 7th of August DaveM removed
	your subscription.
