Hi !
Why not simply something like this :
newversion:
- . scripts/mkversion > .version
+ echo $$[`cat .version 2>/dev/null`+1] > .version
The shell evaluates the `cat` expression before it
writes to
".version", so there's no temp file needed anymore.
