The URL listed for the PPPoE patch in the Configure help is now a 404.
Would someone kindly advise me of where I can get a current patch for
kernel mode PPPoE?
Thank you,
David

No kernel patch is necessary, pppoe/pppox has been in the kernel for
some time now.

Yes, I'm looking for the patch that is required for pppd, or is that no
longer the case?
Thanks,
David

There's no need for an extra patch, all stuff is now in the cvs-version
of pppd (2.4.2 beta). Just get the cvs-version from [1]
Nevertheless, you can find the old patch at [2], but for an up-to-date
version, you must use the cvs-stuff.
Bye,
Michael

There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding ppp and pppoe these days.
In June someone inquired about the Ostrowski's pppoe patch for pppd and was
pointed to the ppp cvs archive at samba. However it seems the cvs archive
there only has a roaring-penguin pppoe module, not the native kernel
implementation.
What happened to the cleaner kernel implementation that didn't require extra
user-space packet filters?
Also, is there a mailing list for the ppp development? It seems to be kind of
an orphan on samba's servers with no status or news pages on their web site
and no mailing list for bug reports, or development discussion.

The roaring-penguin solution can use the in-kernel module, if
requested.
Mr. Ostrowski isn't maintaining his patch anymore, it seems.
The pppd got the plugin-architecture, as requested but didn't
adapt the pppoe module from Mr. Ostrowksi.
Maybe he himself or the PPP maintainer could elaborate, if they
read the message.
