Hi Andrew!
With 2.6.7-mm6 my laptop stops working completely. Ooops while booting.
Reverting
- usb-locking-fix.patch
- bk-usb.patch
makes it work.
Yre you interested in the output of the kernel oops? I could recompile
the `bad' kernel and copy the Oops by hand from the screen.
BTW: With 2.6.7-mm6 my synaptics touchpad is not recognized anymore at
boot time from the driver. Is this done somewhere in the usb stuff?
And X does not start because it cannot find the synaptics stuff. Have
there been any changes in this area?
Best wishes
Norbert

Hi Andrew, hi list!
As a follow up to the previous email concerning deadlocks with -mm6 here
a more detailed description concerning the synaptics device not being
found:
Here is the relevant part of the dmesg output with -mm6:
serio: i8042 AUX port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0
input: PS/2 Generic Mouse on isa0060/serio1
and here with a working -mm5:
serio: i8042 AUX port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0
Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1
Firmware: 5.8
180 degree mounted touchpad
Sensor: 29
new absolute packet format
Touchpad has extended capability bits
-> 4 multi-buttons, i.e. besides standard buttons
-> multifinger detection
-> palm detection
input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad on isa0060/serio1
THe only difference I have between mm5 and mm6 is that I disabled
framebuffer and made *all* usb modular (before the hci and some more
were compiled in -- I am testing S2R).
Do you have any idea what might have done this?
Best wishes
Norbert

Try making psmouse modular as well and load it _after_ all USB stuff is
loaded - you may be having issues with USB Legacy emulation.

OK.

Yes, please.

Please:
- Revert the USB patches
- boot, record the `dmesg -s 1000000' output
- revert bk-input.patch, see if that fixess the touchpad.
- if it does, capture the `dmesg -s 1000000' output again.

No USB problems here (dual Opteron w/ NUMA w/o preemption - hardware info
attached). I've checked both 1.1 (pendrive) and 2.0 (external HDD) and both
work just fine.
I'm not sure, but it seems to me that the problems may be related to UHCI
drivers (I have OHCI) - just guessing. :-)

Hi Andrew, hi Dmitry!
Some more information on the Oops, a second Oops with bkusb and
usb-locking-fix reverted

Ok, this has fixed it. At least the other way round: compiling in the
basic usb stuff and psmouse did the trick in -mm6, too.

Attached is:
- config-2.6.7-mm6
the config file for both runs
The following oops files were created with FULL mm6:
- dmesg.mm6.oops
the dmesg output together with the oops
- ksymoops.mm6.txt
the output of ksymoops on the above file
There is another Oops with bk-usb and usb-locking-fix reverted:
- ksymoops.mm6.2nd.txt

I leave this out for now as it works when compiling in input, usb, psmouse
etc.
Best wishes
