Ingo,
This is a series of patches in response to your earlier report to fix the
problem where the I/O APIC NMI watchdog is attempted where it should not
be, fails and then disables the timer leading the system to a fatal
failure. Please put in tip/x86/apic, replacing the patch named
nosmp-watchdog or 'x86: APIC/SMP: Downgrade the NMI watchdog for "nosmp"'
in the sequence.

I've tested it over tip/x86/apic and it solved problems for me.
Thanks Maciej!

applied, thanks Maciej. This series resolved another nmi_watchdog
related boot failure i found today.

Well, APIC code starts breaking in an unobvious way when you start
throwing random kernel parameters at it. Which is the reason I am so
hesitant about adding more of them, especially the obscurer ones. Nobody
tests them seriously beyond the original submission, which actually may
not cover all the important cases either, and then bit rot accumulates.
Have you tried "nolapic" on an SMP system, BTW?
