Hi all,

Here comes the 13 updated patchs for VIA Frame Buffer Device Driver.
This driver could be used on VIA UniChrome (Pro) and Chrome9 family chips.
All the patches are based on linux kernel 2.6.27-rc2 and they're modified by adopting community's feedback.
I would like to thank all who provided their suggestions for VIAFB by mail.
Any question, please contact me. Thanks.

BRs,
Joseph Chan

Please resend the 3rd patch as it is damaged (missing 3 lines of each file).

I am for merging these patches as they are sent now. It allows sending
fixes to them as incremental patches.

This set builds at least for my configuration (Pentium3 SMP).
Unfortunately, I do not have hardware to test. I though about
buying one of these sexy VIA ITX boards but it is outside my
budget now. Anyway, I have too many computers according
to my spouse.

Kind regards,
Krzysztof

Seems to work for me when compiled into kernel on Commell LE365D (Via
CX700) though I get two unwanted effects:
- boot logo does not show up, where it should appear I just get a
square of colored pixels (2 colors: background and foreground grid)
- when blanking console colored text remains visible (e.g. green '*'
  characters emitted during Gentoo boot)
Ideally the output/monitor should got into standby when console is
  blanking

The boot logo issue exists when patch is applied to 2.6.26.2 and
2.6.27-rc2-git4, for the console blanking it's only tested on 2.6.26.2
as 2.6.27-rc2-git4 panics while probing hard drives.

Framebuffer related kernel commandline options:
  video=viafb:viafb_mode=1280x1024,viafb_bpp=32,viafb_refresh=60

Suspend to RAM (S3) works with BIOS configured to reinitialize the
graphics at resume time, I have not yet checked without this option
being enabled in BIOS (though it probably won't work as there is no
suspend/resume callback in the patch-set).
Have not checked yet if DRI has support for CX700 and can do the
suspend/resume handling as the intel DRI can do.

As Krzysztof Helt I'm in favor of merging and ironing out remaining
issues with incremental patches

Bruno

Hi Krzysztof,

Thanks to remind, but after I checked the patches in linux-fbdev-devel mailing list.
It seems there is no missing lines as you mentioned.

Would you please tell me the detailed problem you met? Thanks.

In addition, if possible, I could send you a file which includes all patches.
How do you think that?

BRs,
Joseph

Hi Krzysztof,

Thanks. After re-checking again, I met the malformed issue.
I think that's my careless, I will re-submit the patch again later.

BRs,
Joseph

There are 3 lines missing at the end of each file. I assume they are empty one so no content is missing but the command:

patch -p1 < viafb3.patch

ends with:
patch: **** malformed patch at line 259: diff -Nurp a/drivers/video/via/accel.h b/drivers/video/via/accel.h

If one adds three lines "+" at the line 259, the patch command ends with:

patching file drivers/video/via/accel.h
patch: **** malformed patch at line 446:

Adding three lines "+" at the mentioned file solves the problem.

Kind regards,
Krzysztof
