Below is a partial[1] list of build error/warning regressions/improvements in
v2.6.36-rc8+[2] compared to v2.6.35.
Summarized:
  - build errors: +162(!!)/-48
  - build warnings: +181/-216

JFYI, when comparing v2.6.36-rc8 to v2.6.36-rc7, the summaries are:
 - build errors: +141(!!)/-50
 - build warnings: +139/-147

In addition, I put the verbose summary at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/geert/linux-log/v2.6.36-rc8.summary.gz
so you can easily find out for which configs and architectures the
errors/warnings you're interested in are happening.

Happy fixing! ;-)

Thanks to the linux-next team for providing the build service.

[1] Only 69 of the usual 108 configs have been built
[2] +8fd01d6cfbf7, as there are no logs for plain v2.6.36-rc8

These two are reported for m68k/allmodconfig:
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/buildresult/3387901/, but I cannot
reproduce them.

Moreover, there's no call to inode_setattr on line 1267 of
src/fs/9p/vfs_inode.c.
The same is true for line 34 of include/linux/vgaarb.h.

For the second failure, I know it's been fixed since
71beefe8c0b9e12ed4ac9fe13b98a035ddeaf8eb.

Do you know what's happening here?

I can't see why that's happening, but then I can't find a function or macro
named 'inode_setattr' in the -rc8 kernel source tree at all.
Maybe it's a constructed name (i.e., with ##, stringify)?

BTW, do you use LC_ALL=C when doing builds? I'd like to be able to read
messages like this one:

src/Documentation/spi/spidev_test.c:56: warning: (near initialization for ‘tr’): 1 warnings in 1 logs

Neither of those errors are reported in the above build result ...

That first error was first reported on Aug 11
(http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/buildresult/3021626/) but seems to
have be fixed by Aug 12
(http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/buildresult/3022316/).  See commit
8cef9c67356eca3e6502444c8075a06c86872abf ("v9fs: fixup for inode_setattr
being removed"), one of mine.

That second error was first reported on Aug 6
(http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/buildresult/3012805/) but seems to
have been fixed by Aug 13
(http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/buildresult/3026080/).  Indeed it is
fixed by commit 71beefe8c0b9e12ed4ac9fe13b98a035ddeaf8eb ("vgaarb: drop
vga.h include") which was in response to a report from you.

So, I suspect that there maybe something wrong with the reports you are
working from.

Ah, light dawns ... kisskb, when it gets a failure, attempts to do a
bisect between the failing kernel and the last kernel that built.
Consequently, the log of the bisect attempts will contain some of the
other errors that occurred since the kernel built correctly. (As an
aside, the bisect script appears not to work very well ... :-( )

You were unlucky here that the m68k build went through a series of
different build problems without getting a good build.

You could try cutting the log off after seeing "make failed, trying to
bisect".

Turns out that we do build with LANG=C, but the Geert is grabbing the
logs embedded within the full results web page (which converts the '
characters to &#39).

Geert, to fetch the full log as a text file, just append "log/" to the
results page url. For further help with what you are trying to do,
please email Michael Ellerman (cc'd). He can possibly add useful other
urls or interfaces for you.

That should be

src/Documentation/spi/spidev_test.c:56: warning: (near initialization for ‘tr’)

Just the shiny quotes got mangled.

I do fetch the log/ URLs.

But it seems alpine sends out my emails as:

    Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=ISO-8859-7

while it should be UTF-8. Strange, as I never specify that in the .pinerc...

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to take that into account :-(

Now it starts looking better:
  - v2.6.35 to v2.6.36-rc8:
        * build errors: +124/-51
        * build warnings: +98/-196
  - v2.6.36-rc7 to v2.6.36-rc8:
        * build errors: +115/-50
        * build warnings: +95/-114

I also updated the summaries on kernel.org.
