Subject: [PATCH v4 10/23] KVM: x86: Map a separate VMA for each address space for internal memslots
Date: Fri, 30 Oct 2026 14:20:58 -0700	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20261030212112.2598640-11-seanjc@google.com> (raw)
In-Reply-To: <20261030212112.2598640-1-seanjc@google.com>

Use a separate VMA for each address space when installing internal memslots,
i.e. mmap() a separate VMA for the SMM memslot, and delete the TODO along
with the hack to only unmap() the SMM memslot when freeing memslots. Use
an explicit shmem file (as opposed to the implicit shmem file created for
an anonymous MAP_SHARED mapping) so that both memslots' VMAs point at the
same backing page.

Note, using shmem_kernel_file_setup() directly is more or less equivalent
to shmem_zero_setup(), which is used for "MAP_SHARED | MAP_ANONYMOUS"
mappings; the only practical difference is the dentry name.

Return the virtual address of the non-SMM memslot mapping, as that memslot
is guaranteed to exist.
