Device Tree bindings describe hardware and must remain OS-agnostic.
The thermal zone node name length limit is derived from Linux's
THERMAL_NAME_LENGTH macro, which is an implementation detail rather
than a hardware requirement.
Remove the length restriction and its accompanying comment while
preserving the thermal zone naming convention. Any OS-specific limits
should be handled by the implementation rather than encoded in the
Device Tree ABI.

DTS describes hardware. Bindings describe the ABI between hardware and
software, so if SW requires something regarding the DTS, should be
placed in the binding as well, IMO.
Best regards,
Krzysztof

That's odd, if the Linux kernel changes the thermal zone name length to
something else, then that impacts the bindings, no ?
I don't see a good reason why the node name must be limited by Linux.

I provided the reason. Why aren't we/you removing all the device subnode
namings coming from of_get_child_by_name() usage? That's purely a Linux
requirement, no?
Best regards,
Krzysztof
