I know that asking is not good netiquette, but could you please CC me
if you reply? I'm not subscribed because this is really a one time
question. Thanks!

Hi,
I have upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 yesterday, and that brought in the
2.6.31-10 kernel. I always build the linuxwacom drivers myself, and
they use the file in the subject (not 100% sure about the path,
though: I recalled it from memory).
Despite having all the dependencies that allowed me to build
linuxwacom in the past, now that file is missing.
I have searched with apt-file, with no luck. I also have checked that
the file hasn't been deleted from the repositories, as this is its
history:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/jikos/hid.git;a=history;f=drivers/hid/hid-ids.h;hb=ed42350e02bfcb333024949e9653d06916135cc5
So why don't I have it and what should I do to get it?
Thank you very much in advance, and, once again, please CC me in your reply.
Appreciated.

It depends on the mailing list. For the kernel mailing lists it is
actually standard to CC everybody.

Note that when you build out-of-tree drivers you will never be guaranteed
that your driver source will continue to build with a new kernel. When
things break and you cannot solve the problem yourself, you should
normally contact the organization or person where you got the driver, not
the kernel community.
AFAICT in this case the file was simply moved to:
drivers/hid/hid-ids.h
^^^
Cheers,

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I asked here because I thought
something might have changed into the kernel that broke linuxwacom and
they didn't know yet.

Actually, that's the place where the file is looked for, despite the
mistake in the subject of my email (I said I recalled from memory :))
See line 38 at http://linuxwacom.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/linuxwacom/linuxwacom-dev/src/2.6.31/Makefile.in?revision=1.1&view=markup
So the question remains: why don't I have that file?
Thanks!

Probably this is because you don't have kernel-source package installed
(or however is it called in your distro). /lib/modules/<version>/build is
supposed to be symlink to the appropriate kernel sources, and apparently,
in your case, it's not.
This is distro-specific/installation question though, so it's unlikely
you'll get too much support on this mailinglist.
