Hi,
I'm running the following kernel on a Dell XPS 9315.
uname -a
Linux androwbook 6.11.7-zen1-1-zen #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri, 08
Nov 2024 17:57:58 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm trying to get the webcam to work but the sensor (ipu6 / ov01a10)
doesn't seem to be detected and kernel is showing the following:
doas dmesg | grep ipu6
[ 29.543059] intel-ipu6 0000:00:05.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[ 29.543294] intel-ipu6 0000:00:05.0: IPU6 in non-secure mode touch
0x0 mask 0xff
[ 29.549549] intel-ipu6 0000:00:05.0: FW version: 20230925
those last two lines repeating again and again and then stopping at some
points.
Both modules ov01a10 and intel_ipu6 are loaded.
There are multiple reports of similar problems with the same kind of
Dell laptop:
https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers/issues/291
https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers/issues/288
https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers/issues/298
I'm running Full Disk Encryption and Secureboot if it matters but had no
luck disabling Secureboot.
I'm currently building mainline to test. Sorry if it lacks precision,
I'll be happy to add any info needed.
Regards,

2024 23:35:35 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
dmesg also show this after stopping repeating the two lines:
[ 17.272302] pci 0000:00:05.0: deferred probe pending: intel-ipu6:
IPU6 bridge init failed

Nicolas,
Why was your IPU device running on non-secure mode?
`intel-ipu6 0000:00:05.0: IPU6 in non-secure mode touch 0x0 mask 0xff`
Could you please confirm that you are running with a correct IFWI(BIOS)?

Bingdu,
How can I enforce secure mode? I didn't find any way to change that.
The computer is running Dell BIOS firmware 1.24.0. What do you mean with
correct?

Nicolas,
The IPU should be enforced to run in secure mode(not the `secure boot`)
in product, no BIOS option for it. I suggest you get support from vendor
to check.

Thanks!
Got no help from Dell.
Somebody seems to have some clue here
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2316918#c22
The non-secure mode doesn't seem to be an issue.
