Without this option internal microphone does not seem to be working.

Is it with the latest 3.0 kernel? We fixed recently the default
posfix value to LPIB for ATI/AMD controllers.

Ah, I see. No, that was with an older kernel. Unfortunately I do not
have access to the box anymore so won't be able to test 3.0 ;(
