Hi,

The lockup is probably caused by a patch that made it in the tree 
which adds an interrupt disable/enable to keep interrupt assertion 
state synced between 82547 and APIC. This patch was in the tree before 
but was reverted a while back because it locked up 82547 CSA-based LOMs. 
Apparently it made it back in. Below I have inserted a patch (against 2.6.3)
which 
removes it again. Feel free to test if it stops the lockups.

It works like a charm.  My box now boots with kernel 2.6.3.

Hi,

On my Asus P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard with an on-board CSA-bus e1000
ethernet interface, the kernel locks up hard (no oops, no magic SysRq)
as soon as an ip address is assigned to it with ifconfig.  The last
message on the console is "NET: Registered protocol family 17", which is
usually followed by "e1000: eth0 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex". 
The same hardware works flawlessly with kernel 2.6.2.

The motherboard uses the Intel 875P chipset and is equipped with a
Pentium4 3.0 GHz CPU (HT enabled).  My distribution is Debian unstable.

lspci output, gcc version info, and kernel config can be found below. 
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help track down the
problem.
