Trying to use an AIC7890 SCSI controller with kernel 2.4.5 I have
the problem reported into the attached log files.  Same problems with
kernel 2.4.3.  Kernels below 2.4 doesn't even see it.  In MS Windows 95
it works without any problems.  I used 3 variations of SCSI controllers
built upon AIC7890, so I don't think all 3 are bad.  One was made for
Compaq and two for Dell.  The AIC7890 is around since a while so that's
the problem with Linux in corp. computing.  It's great but cannot use
it.
    I Couldn't send this bug report directly to the author of the
driver, Justin T. Gibbs, because there is no e-mail address provided.
    If you need further details please, let me know.  Same if you need a
sample controller for your tests.
    If you fix the problem, please, let me know.  Maybe next time we may
be really able to use your OS.

One useful thing to try would be to try the old aic7xx driver (say N to 
aic7xxx and it will offer you the old one). Clearly if the aic7xxx_old driver
works then it is rather good information.

Except for an obscure bug under very high memory load I'm not aware of any 
outstanding bugs in the AIC7xxx driver, certainly not like you describe. There
is however always a first time for any bug 8)

Make certain that the SCSI bus is properly terminated.  Most of the SCSI
errors reported here are a result of bad termination.

	Well, AIC7xxx crashes on me with stock 2.4.5 kernel
(Athlon TB 850, ASUS A7V). I run 2.4.3 + zerocopy patches, and when I tried
to upgrade to 2.4.5, it crashes during boot while initializing the AIC7xxx
driver. I have written down the Oops numbers by hand, but I had to
reboot the server back to 2.4.3+zerocopy.

If I understand your problem correctly, the system seems to work
correctly, but you get spurious PCI errors.  I have not been able
to replicate the problem here, but I believe I understand what is
happening.  It should be fixed in 6.1.14.  The errors are, I believe,
harmless.
